SP Dirty Diesels - Intro

Hello Everybody!

This is the start of my weblog dedicated to the Diesel locomotives of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

For starters, even if some SP Diesel locomotives were so dirty that you couldn't even read the lettering anymore, let's be absolutely clear on one thing:

The ESPEE was a BEAUTIFUL Railroad !!!

Just have a look at this beauty:

As you can see, the SP was not for sissies...

SP7463 was delivered new to the SP in 1967, class EF636-2, number SP8854, and rebuilt in December 1982 to SP's SD45E standards.

And if you are into SP model railroading, it might be interesting to note that SP7463 was one of the few SD45R's on the Espee that still ran around with all brake cylinders inside/underneath the truck-frames, similar to the Kato HO model SD40/SD45 locomotive trucks.

If you know of any others, please share pictures with us!

Keep rollin',
Juancho
